I'm essientially done with Messenger and I'm going to stop drawing it out.

Many of you saw the first chapter of my supposed last story "Sunshine Days." A terror attack draws Messenger out of semi-retirement, and he goes to the 'Daily Trombone' to stop a cell that's holding several hostages. Basically he fails, it becomes a giant cluster-fuck, the terrorist blows himself up and all the hostages and after the blast throws him out a 5 story window, Messenger is finally arrested.

The chapter ended with Messenger making a deal with the time-God Millenia, the same one from my early stories... and Messy makes a Faustian deal. He knows Millenia isn't to be trusted, but he's going to jail and the blood of innocents are on his hands due to his incompetance and slow reaction time. He figures it can't get any worse. So he agrees to the time-God's terms and Millenia whisks him out of the police van so he can go back in time to 1999 (when I first came here and the original incarnation burst on to the scene) to undo all the damage that's happened in his life in general... (kill Poisyn's killer, Energizer, while he sleeps in bed) ... and in particular undo the damage of the terror attacks from the day he left, by killing the members of the cell before they became terrorists. The problem with that is at the time, they're technically civilians with no incriminating evidence to tie them to the future attacks. It would basically be my critique on pre-emptive warfare and if it's ever warranted. His killing spree of future criminals continues and soon he's hunted by every hero in the city for these seemingly random killings of civilians.

After the past-LL (complete with Jarvis leading, and characters like Donar, Banjooooo, DH and other old faces) starts to attack future Messenger believing him to be a dopple-ganger gone bad and not believing that the past-Messenger could ever become that amoral. Unfortunately, in the past seven years, Messenger has become more ruthless, more elite and more efficient in his combat skills. They corner him in a warehouse where he holds a bloodied Baron Zemo hostage. He sets C4 charges all over the entrace to a warehouse believing he can't be taken down for he holds the key to the future and the key to stopping all the bad things that would take place in the years to come... and in the process he committs attrocities himself. His belief that "the ends justify the means" is so extreme that he soon finds himself slaughtering police, other vigilantes and even his fellow LL members. He cries out apologies, but always adds that to save the world he must do things he doesn't want to.

Eventually, there's a show-down between Messenger-1999 and current day Messenger. Pathos ensue, as the two battlers symbolize the clash of yin-yang, innocence and corruption, heart and head that's in all of us. They also symbolize the whole and pure America verses the America of today... the one of pre-emptive warfare, cataclysmic attacks and grey areas. Messenger-1999 knowing that he has no hope of beating the more experienced, more lethal current-day Messenger, points his gun into his mouth and blows himself away... He kills himself and in the process retcons Messenger from that point forward and everything (good and bad) he's done from that day.

The Lair Legion (now whole and alive again) discover dead Messy-1999's body and wonder why this fresh, promising rookie killed himself, not even remembering the events that lead up to it. They wonder what he could have been had he not taken his life. Jarvis makes an ironic, prophetic speech about never knowing when the end is, and everyone walks out in tears as his body is zipped up. And the metaphor would imply that America, both the good and bad, collapse because the two sides couldn't reconcile with each other.

The End.

*sigh*... So there you have it...

Would it have been the most kick-ass, most original story I've ever posted here? Yes. By a mile. By more than a mile. That's not a boast, that's a fact.

Would some people have been pissed with the political analogies considering my very liberal world-view? Possibly, although I hope they would overlook that for a good story. The politics would not be hammered over anyone's head, and I respect people of different persuasions.

Am I sabotaging myself by not finishing it? Depends. I'm a graduating college student, looking for a job and praying I can walk in May. I'm not a highschool sophomore anymore. I have real problems and really huge projects that I can't juggle while writing weekly twenty page installments for this board.

My passion for writing is still there, dormant but lying in my soul. My passion for this place and that character have abated significantly over the years and are now gone. Sorry.

If anyone handles Messenger, use the outline of this story as a template because that's what I would have wanted. You guys won't see much anymore, but it's been fun. Especially the early days. This board got me through some dark periods.

yours sincerely,
Andrew Cutler/ Messenger
